Lay Employment

District Employment Consultant

The field of employment law is a potential minefield so in order to support Circuits and Churches the District has engaged the services of a professional Lay Employment Consultant, Mr Peter Flower, who carries professional indemnity for all the work he undertakes. For further details about how to contact Peter Flower please contact the District Office.

For all normal work the cost of this service is met by the District.

The District Lay Employment Consultant will offer advice on issues relating to recruitment and selection of all Lay Employees and the production of Contracts of Employment and will need to approve the Job Description and Personal Specification before the appointment is advertised. He also needs to approve draft Contracts before any appointment is made. Please use the Methodist Employment Pack to prepare all the necessary documentation. Use the sub-menus to access the employment section of the Methodist website.

No lay employee should be subjected to any form of disciplinary action or formal performance review without prior consultation with the District Lay Employment Consultant. The Consultant should be approached for further advice at every stage in the process.

All appointments of lay employees are governed by Standing Order 570 to 575. All Local Church appointments require the prior approval of the Circuit Meeting and all Circuit appointments require the prior approval of the District Council. The District Chair has a right to attend or be represented at all selection panels.
